Black Pottery Jia

Neolithic Age

Height: 23.5cm   Caliber: 14.5cm

Unearthed from Bauhinia Site in Shangzhou City, Shaanxi Province, 1977

An additional rope or cake of clay in various shapes is applied to the surface of the pottery as decorations and also helps to make the vessel sturdy. This is a typical pottery-making method in the Longshan Culture period well reflected from this pottery jar (jia) with two raised bands and loops. Similar shape was adopted later in bronze ware casting.
