Painted Infantry Figurines

Western Han Dynasty

47-48 centimeters high

Unearthed from the funerary pit of Han Changling in Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province in 1991

The infantry figurines, with their hair wrapped in headscarves and their right hands raised with half clenched fists, may originally hold weapons. In addition to Changling, a large number of Terracotta Army burials were found in the imperial mausoleums of the Western Han Dynasty, such as Anling, Baling, Yangling, Maoling.
